Humans of Our Planet: Virgin Galactic’s Christopher Huie

We are thrilled to have our next guest on our Instagram Live Series, Humans of Our Planet: Christopher Huie, a Virgin Galactic astronaut who recently flew to space on the VSS Unity. Christopher will join our Executive Director Rachel Lyons for a candid conversation about his spaceflight experience, the Overview Effect, and what it means to go, “to space for Earth!”

Christopher was part of the Unity 25 mission that launched on May 25th, 2023. VSS Unity, a SpaceShipTwo-class suborbital rocket-powered crewed spaceplane reached an altitude of 80 kilometers (50 miles), crossing the boundary of space as defined by the U.S. government. Christopher and his fellow passengers enjoyed several minutes of weightlessness and stunning views of Earth before gliding back to a runway landing at Spaceport America in New Mexico.

Christopher is not only Virgin Galactic Astronaut 006 & Unity 25 Mission Specialist. He is also Virgin Galactic's Senior Engineering Manager, Flight Sciences. He is also Co-Founder of the Black Leaders in Aerospace Scholarship & Training (BLAST) Program, making Christopher the perfect person to bring to our S4H audience!
