Sophia brings more than 16 years of experience in administration and operations working in a variety of settings, ranging from private, nonprofit, philanthropy, and government. Her expertise includes systems change efforts and process improvement; team growth and restructuring with oversight of professional development, finance management, strategic planning, and client and vendor relationship management.
Sophia previously served as the director of administration, human resources, compliance, and technology for the Center for the Independence of the Disabled in New York. Other companies she has worked for in the past include the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, The Ford Foundation, and the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY. She holds a B.S. in Health Science from Stony Brook University and an M.S. in Nonprofit Management, from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School for Public Engagement.
Her lifelong passion for social and racial justice pushed her to transition to nonprofit work over 11 years ago and since then has remained steadfast in her commitment to being of service and takes great pride in helping nonprofit organizations build sustainable systems so they can continue to solve urgent social challenges. She is a visionary change agent who brings a unique blend of strategic leadership and operating expertise to causes that prioritize social and environmental impact. Her professional career has been spent focused on building up the fundamental principles of management, compliance, and sustainability for organizations and teams. Sophia believes in creating a balanced working environment where employees are valued, emotionally engaged, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Born in Jamaica, Sophia migrated to the United States where she grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She currently lives in Westchester, New York with her husband and two children. In her downtime, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, cooking food grown from her garden, and traveling.
