Microphones in Microgravity
Planetary Radio’s Matt Kaplan and a stuffed otter join Space for Humanity’s mission to reimagine who space is for
For over two decades, Matt Kaplan has been the voice guiding listeners through the cosmos on Planetary Radio. But on June 1st, 2025, the longtime host traded his microphone for a flight suit and joined Space for Humanity’s inaugural Fly With Me in Zero-G training mission—an experience that launched him into a new kind of orbit.
After years of interviewing astronauts and space visionaries, he finally floated among them, striking a “Superman” pose mid-flight while a stuffed otter (a gift from his grandson) peeked out from his suit. It was a scene that captured the joy, humility, and wonder that Space for Humanity strives to ignite in every participant.
“I’ve dreamt of this for decades,” Kaplan shared in his interview with current Planetary Radio host Sarah Al-Ahmed. “Floating in microgravity was everything I imagined—and more. But sharing that moment with such an inspiring, international group made it truly unforgettable”.
Kaplan’s story is a testament to that mission. From radio waves to zero-G arcs, he continues to amplify the human adventure across our solar system—and now, from a perspective few ever get to experience.
