Barbie Becomes a Citizen Astronaut!

“Having founded this organization in 2016, the goal was to democratize access to space and inspire the next generation of space explorers and STEM students. I never dreamt of the Space for Humanity logo gracing a Barbie doll, but seeing our mission go mainstream is super gratifying.”

Our founder, Dylan Taylor, made this comment on social media in response to the picture of our first Citizen Astronaut posing with her very own, one-of-a-kind, 12-inch, official Barbie! CA-1, Katya Echazarreta scaled down into a pop culture icon! And we have to say, scientifically speaking, how cool is that?!

As Dylan stated, the small step of that doll represents a giant leap into the mainstream. The Barbie doll is a powerful tool for reaching people who might not have otherwise been exposed to our message. It shows that space is not just for scientists and engineers, the wealthy and connected, but for everyone who dreams of going to space for Earth.

The custom doll dons Katya’s signature, lifesize beaming smile, and the confident stance of a CA. And do you spy what's on her flight suit? That’s right, it’s the first Space for Humanity mission patch, by our very own Alliance Member, Drue Kataoka. The small details make all the difference!

The miniature flight patch and the Barbie doll are both powerful symbols of our continuing reach into the public consciousness. We are part of a larger movement working towards making space accessible to everyone so that we can look at the world from a different perspective. And with the help of pop culture icons like Barbie, we can truly bring our mission to more people than ever before!
