Humans of Our Planet: Dr. Nadia Karrim

Do you want to learn how micro-gravity will affect you when you go to space?

Then watch this HOOP (Humans of Our Planet), Space for Humanity’s monthly Instagram Live series, where we talk to inspiring people who are advancing the frontiers of human space travel and the transformational change it can cause, here on Earth.

This month, we’re honored to have Dr. Nadia Karrim as our special guest. Dr. Karrim is a specialist ENT/Head and Neck surgeon and the founder of the International Centre for Astronautical Development. She is also the co-lead of the C-MIST project, a collaboration with Space for Humanity to conduct a comprehensive patient-centered review of common medical conditions and the risks associated with suborbital flight and short-duration exposure to microgravity. The C-MIST project aims to improve civilian knowledge and awareness and to support commercial space program inclusivity.

Dr. Karrim has a wealth of experience in various fields of medicine, including maritime, aviation, and space medicine. She holds a master’s degree in medicine and two postgraduate diplomas in Aviation and Space medicine. She has also trained at the International Space University, the European Space Agency, and several private and military facilities.

Dr. Karrim has been recognized as one of the 100 Mandelas of the future and one of the leading women in technology in South Africa for her role in developing a space outreach program in rural Kwazulu Natal and promoting space medicine research and education in under-represented regions of the world.

And who better to host Dr. Karrim than C-MIST co-lead, Aisha Said, the Director of Programs at Space for Humanity? Join them for an engaging conversation about her journey into space medicine, her goals and challenges for the C-MIST project, and her vision for the future of health and humanity in space.
