The Overview 06/30
JUNE — A Legacy to Celebrate and a Future to Inspire
June kicked off with Space for Humanity in Los Angeles, at the Hollywood Climate Summit. S4H Executive Director Antonio Peronace moderated a panel titled "The Overview Effect,” featuring Melissa Navia (Lt. Erica Ortegas, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”), Bill Wolkoff (writer, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”), retired NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman, and Manju Bangalore, founder of Operation Period and a Virgin Galactic Astronaut-in-Training. The discussion explored how iconic images like Apollo 8's Earthrise and Artemis II's Earthset have the power to transform perspectives and deepen our understanding of the interconnectedness of our shared home. It also examined how science fiction, particularly “Star Trek,” imagines a future in which humanity overcomes its differences and uses science and exploration to build a better world.
On June 12 — coincidentally the same day SpaceX went public — Space for Humanity Founder and Board Chairman Dylan Taylor celebrated the public debut of his company, Voyager Technologies. Antonio, along with board members Yemi Dele Akinyemi and Ryan Kriser, joined Dylan at the New York Stock Exchange as he commemorated the occasion by ringing the closing bell. Dylan used the moment to remind everyone that success is measured not only by what we accomplish today, but more importantly, by what we make possible for the generations that follow.
Then, on June 24, Representative Don Bacon and retired NASA astronaut Senator Mark Kelly, joined by every member of the Advancing Humanity in Space Congressional Caucus, which Space for Humanity helped establish, introduced the Artemis II Congressional Gold Medal Act to honor the four crewmembers of the historic Artemis II mission around the Moon. Quoted in the accompanying press release, Antonio reflected on the mission's significance:
“Space has the ability to bring people together, shape perspectives, and inspire us all. Artemis II's record-shattering mission could not have happened at a better time. The images, experiences, and perspectives these remarkable explorers shared remind us that while we may come from different nations, backgrounds, and beliefs, we all live on the same fragile planet. We are all crewmembers on Spaceship Earth. Artemis proves our greatest achievements are the ones we accomplish together. That’s why this mission was not only a success for NASA and the United States, but a gift to all humanity.”
June also gave us the opportunity to celebrate two important milestones: the fourth anniversary of Space for Humanity's first Citizen Astronaut, Katya Echazarreta's historic journey to space on June 4, 2022, and the one-year anniversary of our Zero-G flight with young changemakers from across North, Central, and South America on June 1, 2025. That flight was far more than a parabolic adventure — it was a powerful demonstration of how a single transformative experience can change lives, inspire action, and empower the next generation of space advocates.
And because that program proved so successful, we're doing it again!
This August, lucky Space for Humanity followers from regions where space voices are often underrepresented will win a seat aboard an Air Zero G flight departing from Bordeaux, France. Winners will work alongside an incredible group of established science communication mentors, receiving guidance, training, and support to help them become compelling voices for space and STEM. By empowering people from regions where space and science outreach is underrepresented, we hope to expand access to knowledge, spark curiosity, and ensure that the next chapter of exploration includes perspectives from every corner of the globe. It's more than a chance to experience weightlessness — it's an opportunity to join a new generation of space communicators and help inspire humanity's future among the stars.
